Rat Fink's Revenge

Big Daddy has left something that will live on forever. After forty years, Rat Fink fever has gotten in our heads, on our speedways, in our skateparks–there is no cure. We've gone on to become artists, filmmakers, mechanics, executives. He's become an action figure, a bobble head, a rececar, a doll, and has achieved timeless cult status along the way. At first it may have seemed that Rat Fink was originally drawn for us to laugh at, as a throw away carton. Now he's the one laughing–Rat Fink's Revenge indeed. This collection of 40 Rat Fink statues is taken from the book compiled by David Chodosh. The project originated as a way for the author and four score contemporary artists to exorcize their inner Fink–the sick monster inside who needs to come out and show itself to the world. All the contributors, for whom Rat Fink is part of their soul, were given the same 12" resin model kit to customize.

Vinyl Thoughts Art Show

Several sponsors jumped on board as well. The obvious connection with Dallas KidRobot affiliate ATAMA made them a perfect fit and they had a pop-up shop at the show. San Antonio based family business Bean Pot Toiz supplied artists with blanks at cost to give them a large selection of toys to customize as well as manned the ultra cool toy lounge pop-up shop at the show. Local favorite comic book store Lone Star Comics Plano sent along a gift basket to raffle. Austin distillery Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka provided adult beverages. Additional beverages were provided by vitaminwater and Red Bull. Location-based review giant Yelp promoted the show to their subscribers. Finally, Aaron Brothers Art and Framing contributed supplies to all of the artists. The sponsorships with vitaminwater and Yelp were unique. Both of those companies had their own customs at the show. Yelp gave away their custom by artist Motorbot to one of their subscribers. Two customs were created for vitaminwater: one each from Cody Phillips (MacIX) and Dylan Bradway. One to give away at the show and one that the company kept. DJ Fishr Pryce, winner of the recent Dallas Red Bull Thre3style competition was spinning tunes throughout the evening. In addition to our sponsored beverages, Dallas food truck Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe parked outside and sold their gourmet grilled cheeses. In all, it was a very successful night. A line of people stood outside for up to an hour waiting to get in for three hours after the doors opened. Over $5,000 in local art was sold in four hours. Attendees walked away with great giveaways, awesome art and a sense of community. Nearly all sponsors immediately asked to be included in the next show while Facebook fan numbers and email list subscribers grew.

The Vader Project

The Vader Project is a reimagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet curated by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys (dketoys.com). Kelemer and Marks gathered close to 100 of the hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists, and designers to participate. For this unique project each artist was given a 1:1 scale authentic prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet used in the STAR WARS™ films. The helmets served as a blank canvas for each artist to paint, design, mash up, and customize.
