Now in its sixth year, Designer Con, is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys and designer apparel with urban, underground and pop art!
The theme of the show is meant to draw awareness to bullying and cyberbullying. Cooper has confirmed over 70 artists from around the world to participate in the show. Paintings, drawings, custom toys, and prints expressing the artists' view of bullying will be on display. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to GLIDE (Gays and Lesbians Initiating a Dialog for Equality) and CHIME Institute (an organization dedicated to inclusive education where kids of all abilities learn together).
Buff Monster is best known for his wheat-pasted, street art featuring lumps of ice cream, clouds, and squirting breasts. He needs just a few tones to seize your eyeballs–black, gray, white, and pinks–and his disarmingly sweet imagery has spilled over into the worlds of fashion, collectibles, and galleries, as well as collaborations for the likes of The Standard, Hurley, Vans, Helio, and Nike. For this exhibit, the Los Angeles artist is asking 49 of his artist friends, peers, and colleagues to customize three-inch toys based on his work. A full-color, limited-edition poster will also be made available to commemorate the event and capture the one-of-a-kind pieces.
myplasticheart presents the the Sketchbot Custom Show, the official launch of the new figure by NYC artist/animator Steve Talkowski. 50 artists and designers will have their hand in creating original designs for the Sketchbot platform. For all you robot lovers out there this is a can't miss event.
The Vader Project is a reimagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet curated by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys (dketoys.com). Kelemer and Marks gathered close to 100 of the hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists, and designers to participate. For this unique project each artist was given a 1:1 scale authentic prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet used in the STAR WARS™ films. The helmets served as a blank canvas for each artist to paint, design, mash up, and customize.
The event featured customized 20-inch Dunnys and Super Fat Caps by more than 120 artists, celebrities, and companies. An auction will take place on eBay the very same day, with proceeds going to the Save the Children charity. The event also marked the debut of a new, temporary location of Kidrobot NY store, as the flagship store closed this weekend and undergoes a major renovation.
Over 150 of the World's Leading Artists and Designers have come together to celebrate the New York City Subway Centennial with Tag the System NY. Each artist was given a blank subway car, and asked to lend their own creative style and vision to designing their own unique interpretation of a New York City Subway Car. The cars, almost 2 foot wide, were designed by Klim K and manufactured by Drastic Plastic. The artists participating include a very diverse set of styles, from old school to current grafitti artists, to comic and animation artists, to sculptors and even traditional companies including Nike and the Mattel Hot Wheels Team.
