The 2nd Annual Designer Toy Awards will be held at the historic Providence NYC, one of New York City's most opulent venues! Located in Midtown Manhattan, Providence NYC was formerly a church and then a recording studio, where The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Guns N' Roses, John Lenon and many other legends recorded their magic. With 35-foot cathedral ceilings, multiple levels and a world-renowned full bar and kitchen, we couldn't be happier with our home for this year's ceremony! The Designer Toy Awards will be held on October 13th, 2012 (during New York Comic-Con weekend). Doors open — and the party starts — at 8:00 pm. The first 50 non-professionals through the door will receive an awesome Goodie Bag!
myplasticheart is excited to announce our next show opening on February 24. We have been hinting at it here on the blog, but we are finally revealing all about our next exhibit! Rabid, Wild & Docile will feature a collection of bear inspired artwork and is curated by me! You’ve seen certain characters popping up in the pop-pluralism and low-brow movements but whether it be a panda, a grizzly or a polar bear, this animal has been gracing artists’ brains and finding its way to canvases, stickers, and 3D figures for awhile now. It’s time to bring some of the greatest bear characters together in one room!
After the huge success of the first Sketchbot Custom Show held this past March at My Plastic Heart NYC, Sketchbot creator Steve Talkowski decided to curate a highly anticipated 2nd show for the West coast designer toy aficionados. Opening Friday night, November 19th, at Munky King LA, the date also coincides with the drop of the Sketchbot DIY blanks, which will be available at the show. Pick up a one-of-a-kind custom from your favorite artist, then head home with a blank and create your very own unique Sketchbot!
Lunartik’s Mini Tea Tour featuring 70+ custom works of art, created from Matt JOnes’ platform toy, Lunartik in a Cup of Tea. These artistic interpretations have been brewed to perfection by a fine selection of World Artists. The Mini Tea Tour debuts at the 43° Gallery in Berlin, then moves on to Vienna to the Sixxa store for spring, then off to the USA and to Dragatomi for summer, and lastly we see this year’s tour come to rest in Forbidden Planet’s Mega Store in London for the Christmas season.
