So often when I see a custom come through my inbox or twitter/facebook feed, my first instinct is to clean it up and drop it into the library. However, this gives a minimal amount of exposure to the artists busting their ass on great customs ... so I've been taking a bit more time to post about stuff when I can. Case in point, this amazing Two Faced Hazel custom from f+ (Josh Pearce) is just too damned sweet to not write up at least a little something. This piece along with a few others entered recently are part of Gunnzo's upcoming show 'The Two-Faced Show' opening October 13th. Vinyl Thoughts 3 show - One Night, Raffles & Free AdmissionVinyl Thoughts 3 opens at Life in Deep Ellum in Dallas, TX
With the growing success of 'Vinyl Thoughts' over the last two years, curators Shelby Miller and Cody Phillips are hosting in a larger venue, including more artists, and have even more raffles and surprises planned. This year, Vinyl Thoughts 3 features the work by over 50 artists from all over the world, which can all be seen for one night only on September 13th at 7pm at 'Life in Deep Ellum' in Dallas, TX. Check out some great pieces to the right from Paul Sirmon, DeeTen, ianthegamer, f+ (Josh Pearce), and Rsinart. I saw Josh's piece for the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show : 3 pop up on my facebook feed and I immediately had two thoughts. First, thanks for shooting it on white, and secondly can I buy this from him before the show opens next week? I'm not even a fan of The Venture Bros, I think I've only found time to watch one or two episodes, but this custom is so amazing it makes me want to watch the series to I can wax intellectual about it as it sits on my shelf.... Update on our book 'Deconstructing Designer Toy'Potentially looking for new publisher to speed up release date
For those people unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, back in November I made a newspost calling for artists to participate in an upcoming book we wanted to produce titled 'Deconstructing Designer Toys'. In this book, toy customizers would submit some of their work, and then as part of the submission they would describe the process for one of their pieces ... triumphs, difficulties, etc. Hopefully, making this a bit more than a typical toys/portfolio book with pretty pictures. We put the book together in about 6-7 weeks from start to finish, in order to hit a July 2012/SDCC release date. Well, it looks like our release date is around early 2013 so we're trying to explore our options.... [ read more ]
