Furry Feline Creatives is a Los Angeles-based character design studio founded by designer artist Cheri Ong and husband Alvin Ong that adheres to these three things: Individuality, Family & Community. Our work and characters are influenced by real people, their interests and personalities that we can identify, relate, learn and love. A by-product of our love for pop culture and our love for our kids that allowed us to blend those two together. A universal language to make us dream and smile that connect us across racial, political and social divides.
Cheri had been drawing all her life, made a career and profession out of it, doodling all the way since elementary school, drew characters based on her friends and people she knew. But it wasn't until August 2011 when the question came up. "We have two toddlers now, what can we do to teach them at this very young age and take them along when they grow up? Being huge fans of pop culture and geekdom, we wanted to do something that we ourselves can enjoy, share and bond with the kids and teach them to be proud of who they are. The idea of creating handmade plush toys came to mind along with a message or a story that reaches a wide spectrum of children to adults. Like the dolls, there is a uniqueness in all of us that has to be seen and heard. We are made special and distinct from each other.
Cheri, with no previous background in sewing started to make plush toys with the characters she drew back in the days and Alvin started writing stories the way he would tell them when putting the kids to sleep.
