Will custom vinyl toys ever reach the level of "Street Art?"

It seem that the fourth generation of graffiti artists have benefitted greatly from the old pioneers of the first (1976 - 1983) generation. Graffiti has been retooled to accommodate some artists who missed the 'subway car bombing' and most are only learning from videos & books how to get down.

The custom vinyl scene is completely opposite in the sense that it didn't start as public art derived from Hip Hop music and dance culture. It is a hybrid of post Pop art and is generally exclusive to urban culture but everybody claims that they started out as graffiti artists painting illegal walls.

Will we find custom vinyl toys/sculptures being exhibited more frequently in contemporary art galleries and a broader range of characters other than monsters, spooks, demons and the grotesque?
