Opening up and organizing Conversations a bit

So over the weekend Blake upgraded our server instance to help with performance as the site has been a bit sluggish at times with all the new users that have been on recently. A good problem to have. We also did a few other things while we at it.

** Small issue with how TinyMCE is cached **
If you find that you can't use the 'Link' button on Conversations, please press Ctrl+R on Windows or Command+R on Mac to fix this problem.

New Conversations navigation & Open access to Vote & Reply:
First we added a navigation on the left to help browse tags in an easier way. Secondly everyone that has an account can now vote & reply on all conversations. Blake and I felt the initial barrier requiring people to earn Reputation by adding/editing items in the library to start talking was a bit too much. It was initially in place to help us moderate spam, but with the quality of our members and the help of our moderators I don't see this being too big of a problem down the road.

Temporary Trading/Marketplace Tags created:
Now that we opened up replies to anyone that signs up I imaging we're going to have an rash of members posting 'I have this if anyone wants to buy' or 'I'm looking for this if anyone wants to sell' posts. The reason we are going to remove those is because in the long-term it adds nothing to the conversation about a particular piece, and clogs up the conversations area for people who want to talk about work.

Similar to any forum you can use one of the several 'Marketplace Conversation Tags' to help people find your sales/buying posts. You can use For Sale, Looking to Buy, Trade, Commission, and Bootleg/Warning. I will be creating a separate post to help set some basic guidelines around trading with others.

Artists, Manufacturers, Stores & Galleries post your news:
If you have some upcoming releases, events/shows, secret drops, kickstart projects or contests giveaways please feel free to post them for our members to know about so they can buy your stuff and attend your events. We want the conversations area to be a place that you can use to help connect with your fans and help get new ones.

In closing:
That's it for now, and I think as we see an increase in Conversations this will be updated over the next few weeks. I hope everyone likes the improvements and sees this as a good step forward until we get to the launch of Marketplace. :)

I'm not entirely positive that I understand the 'deal it' button.
Do I need a rep of 50 for that option to stand for me or is that no longer the case? The marketplace is showing up as 0 listings for me?

blake a The Have, Want, and Deal buttons allow you to add items to 3 lists in your own profile. The Have list is supposed to be used so you can mark items that you currently own, and Want for items that you want to buy. The Deal list is meant as a way for you to let other members of the site know you own the item and are willing to get rid of it (via trade or sale). over 11 years ago

blake a There is no rep requirement for using any of those features. over 11 years ago

blake a The marketplace is not yet done, but when it is you will find listings by other members of the site within the "Marketplace" section. There will be a tie-in to those 3 Have/Want/Deal lists as well. over 11 years ago

You know how you have the conversations page on your individual info page that shows all the conversations that you are involved in... Is there a way to pin a conversation as static on that page to maek it easier to find? There are a couple of long term conversations that I'd like easier access to, that get burried in all the conversations I'm involved in.

Thanks,

Jason

blake a Admins can pin conversations to the top of the main list, but users cannot currently pin conversations on their own convo list on their profile page. We may be adding this in the future. In the short term, I would suggest using the filter bar at the top of the list to search by title. over 11 years ago

Easily_Amused Thanks, I forget about the filter bar often. I hope you do add the feature for individuals lists! over 11 years ago
