Universal Pictures, primarily known as a major film studio, is also an influential player in the art toy industry through licensing its iconic characters to various designer toy brands and manufacturers. The studio owns a vast catalog of beloved franchises, including Jurassic Park, Universal Monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, etc.), Back to the Future, E.T., and Minions, many of which have been reimagined as collectible art toys. Universal collaborates with well-known toy companies such as Super7, Mondo, Funko, NECA, Medicom Toy, and Kidrobot to produce limited-edition vinyl figures, sofubi (soft vinyl), and other stylized collectibles. These collaborations often reinterpret classic characters in unique artistic styles, ranging from retro-inspired designs to modernized, high-end collectibles aimed at serious collectors. Founded in 2002 by designer Paul Budnitz, Kidrobot is the world's premier creator of limited edition art toys and apparel.
