Featuring: Frank Kozik, Task One, Becky Dreistadt, and Cuddly Rigor Mortis

A late Friday afternoon post as we start getting our act together for NYCC. Some amazing featured artists this week, usually guys and girls you know well but every once in a while we hope you find some new stuff by artists you don't know yet. Each week we pick some artists we like who also happen to have some stuff going on this week that we think you should know about. Whether it's a new release, upcoming show, or just some cool stuff they're recently made. Anyway, on to our featured artists

Featured for Designer Toys: Frank Kozik

It's hard to encapsulate the creations of Kozik in one simple paragraph considering he's been creating for more than three decades. The man who has been given credit for revitalizing the concert poster scene, started creating toys in Japan with Bounty Hunter and Medicom Toy, followed up by dominating the US vinyl scene through Kidrobot for nearly a decade. The AP drop of his 8" Mecha Dunny was near and dear to my heart since it was his 3" Mecha Dunny that got me hooked on collecting and eventually inspired me to build Trampt. Our paths have never cross, though he'll be in the Kidrobot booth #2909 next week for a NYCC signing and perhaps dropping a super secret figure. Hopefully I can just give him a hand-shake and say thanks ... and of course make him draw/sign something too. Frank is always releasing toys & prints at this store frankkozik.net and follow him on twitter @frank_kozik.

Featured for Custom Toys: Task One

First I want to give a big shout to Task One for donating a prize from his Dunny Town Series for our giveaway last week. Task One has been producing a variety of architectural themed custom over the last year or so which have been blowing me away. None of them more impressive than his Qeethedral from the Contemporary Figurative Modifications show last year at Toy Art Gallery. His Dunny Town series still have two more sets of designs coming out at the end of October and November so be sure to follow him for updates. Task One isn't a one-trick pony and has produced some fantastic character custom for his solo show As Seen On TV, but my favorite has to be his Jefferey 'The Dude' Lebowski from a few years back. He perfectly captured the essence of the Dude. Check out Task One's store for future releases taskoner.com and follow him on twitter @taskoner for release dates and general updates.

Featured for Art Prints: Becky Dreistadt

Becky Dreistadt, occasionally also known by the name of her comic, Tiny Kitten Teeth, is cuteness in its purest form. She's primarily known for her comics, but her paintings, prints and illustrations have been exhibited worldwide (most notably, my daughter's bedroom where her glories Adventure Time diptych brings the whole room together) from her home in New Zealand all the way to our fair shores here in the US. You can still catch her and May Ann Licudine showing off all their sweet colorful paintings at Forest Carousel which opened last weekend at Gallery Nucleus and is running through Oct 14th. Keep your eyes on her this year as she creates Capture Creatures, an ambitious year-long project showcasing 151 hand-painted creatures, each with an accompanying story by her Tiny Kitten Teeth partner Frank Gibson. The undertaking will culminate with an exhibition of all 151 pieces at Gallery Nucleus and the release of a hardcover book compiling all the work.

Featured for Original Art: Cuddly Rigor Mortis (Kristin Tercek)

Just to show some love (and earn a few more reputation points) I spent about an hour last week entering the entire portfolio of Kristin Tereck, aka Cuddly Rigor Mortis, into the site. I'm constantly stunned by the level of detail she can put into each of her little painting. Her glossy-eyed critters are clever, adorable, occasionally morbid, and always incredibly well executed. Her painting, Sovereign and the Saccharine for Oootopia: and Artgebraic Tribute to Adventure Time at Gallery Nucleus earlier this summer was hands down my favorite piece in that show - and it didn't hurt that it depicted one of my favorite characters, Peppermint Butler. Last week she posted a photo on Instagram of her most recent painting, Noodles. A gorgeous commissioned piece that, perhaps, opens the door for others to commission some cuddly creatures of their very own. Just yesterday she announced the release of limited edition prints of Gwizzly and Lil' Hoot, each signed, numbered (there's only ten of each!), and doodled by the artist, available at swoongallery.com. Other prints, news and a fairly frequently updated blog can all be found at cuddlyrigormortis.com or follow her on twitter @cuddlyrigormort
