Malin Motsdotter is one of the most well known alleged witches in Swedish history. She was one of the few people in Sweden to be executed by burning at the stake. Malin was accused of witchcraft by her daughters and was to be decapitated before being burned at the stake. While standing at the stake, she boldly proclaimed her innocence. One of her daughters called out from the audience for her to admit her crimes to save her soul, "She gave her daughter into the hands of the devil and cursed her for eternity.” After this dramatic proclamation, the fire was immediately lit and the flames quickly reached the bag of gunpowder tied around her neck.
