About this Artist
MUNK ONE is a contemporary American Illustrator and Fine artist from California well known for creating Artwork for many major label musical acts. He is also known for working with world renowned brands, recognized for their creativity. These include Upper Playground, Tribal Gear, True love & False idols and more. His Fine art has also gained much attention through many galleries both at home and abroad. His artistic style can seem dark and serious at first glance, filled with undertones of politics, religion and the idea of mortality. On the other hand much of his work can also be bright, and fun, with a sense of humor. These elements seem to coexist and mix throughout much of his work both commercially and personally. Proficient in both traditional and computer media, he is comfortable using whatever methods his projects may call for. After many successful years of working full time within the apparel and merchandise industries, much of his knowledge and technical expertise has been gained from hands on experience. In 2006 he decided to focus on creating his own brand of art while using his website www.MUNKONE.com as the vehicle to share his creativity with the world. During the 2008 election He Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.
