Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media.Hero Complex Gallery is proud to announce our exhibition for May 3, 2013, "Righteous Rides...And the Dudes Who Drive Them!", a show focusing on prominent characters of fiction and their often creative ways of getting around. From skateboards to spaceships, anything that rolls, races, flies, or crashes can be counted in this high-throttled, tour de force that celebrates your favorite modes of transportation and the characters who drive them! Millennium Falcon, Akira, Steve McQueen, Aliens APC, Ferris Bueller, Pussywagon, Prometheus, James Bond, The Nautilus, NASA...basically anything you can think of that takes place in and around your favorite modes of moving from once place to another.Erica Williams is an artist who lives and works in Minneapolis, MN. She is known for her attention to detail, macabre tendencies, and subtle romanticism with nature and lore. Being mostly self-taught she strives to incorporate elements of fine art and design into her illustrations. Most often she is influenced by art nouveau, traditional printing methods, street art, and typography. Recently Erica has been creating screen printed posters and apparel, letterpress prints, and work for group exhibitions.We work with artists studios and game companies to design custom posters and collectibles for collectors and partners
