About this Venue
Coming to life in 2010, Dangerfork is a Melbourne based boutique screen printer and print gallery with the passion of having artists printing for artists. Dangerfork specialises in fine art screen printing on paper, but we can also print on a number of other surfaces and textures including wood, canvas, plastic, collage, paint, film, almost anything. We endeavour to maintain the highest possible level of quality and workmanship, because as artists ourselves we understand the importance of your work. Not only is Dangerfork an expert screen printing service, we are also a online print gallery that can be visited by anyone, anywhere, showcasing and selling work from Australia’s bubbling cauldron of great and unique talent. Our exhibitions display limited edition art prints in a wide variety of styles, including tattoo art, street art and graffiti; low-brow art, high-brow art, eye-brow art and everything in between. Dangerfork is comprised of the creative couple Chris Drummond & Megan Quigley. Chris’ love for art grew from painting the streets of Melbourne, Amsterdam, London and other parts of Europe, and even venturing to brighten the streets of Asia and Africa. Megan’s background is in fashion and design, giving her a great eye for art, which is shown Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, seriography, and serigraph. Initially recognised for his multi-layer street stencils, Meggs has become a well recognised and respected member of Melbourne's street art culture. With a background of graffiti, skateboarding and graphic design Meggs has developed his painting skills from street to galleries with a mixture of aerosol based character work and stencil based expressive canvases. His work continually references the nostalgia of childhood heroes and villains, exploring the notion of duality and an on-going question of morals, rights and authorities. Reflecting on personal experience Meggs produces energetic depictions of heroes, villains, and subverted collages of pop culture symbols. Meggs has spread his street and gallery work as far as London, LA, Tokyo and Paris. A continued passion for graffiti and character painting, pop-art and abstract expressionism has led to Meggs being well recognised as one of Australia's pioneering street to gallery artists.
