About this Artist
AIKO was born in Tokyo, Japan and currently resides in New York City since the mid 90’s. She received an BFA at Tokyo Zokei University in the field of graphic design and filmmaking, also MFA at The New School, NY with honor mention on Media Studies. In 1997, she assisted the earlier Brooklyn MURAKAMI’s based studio. Few years later she teamed up with two young American artists, which eventually became the seminal street art collective known as FAILE. After 5 years of putting hard work in the US and international streets, galleries and museums, she departed the group to develop her individual artist career as Lady AIKO. She utilizes mixed media on her works, such as spray paint, acrylics, latex enamels, oil bars, coffee stains, rhine stones glitter and pigments. Also she creates images with collecting with her daily documentation and photography, and applies techniques working with collaging, stenciling, silk screening and hand painting. After years of living in US , being an immigrant from from Japan, AIKO discovered American contemporary art movements such as Abstractionism , POP Art , Graffiti and Street Art. Her pieces are combination of those forms with Japanese traditional aesthetic in an innovative Founded in 2002 by designer Paul Budnitz, Kidrobot is the world's premier creator of limited edition art toys and apparel. Kidrobot creates toys, apparel, accessories, and other products in collaboration with many of the world's most talented artists and designers. The products sold at Kidrobot are the centerpieces of a global movement that exemplifies the cutting edge of both pop art and mass culture. Many Kidrobot toys, such as Dunny, MUNNY, and Frank Kozik's Labbits and Mongers, attract huge followings. A blend of sculpture and popular art, many of Kidrobot's exclusive toys are extremely rare and collectible. Artists often create a series of only a few hundred Swiveling head. Comes with spray can accessory. This figure is based on stenciled art prints Nakagawa created in 2007 using New York subway posters. Traditional prints of this character were also sold at her art shows that year.
