Carpe Noctus (DCon '19)

A sculpture that appears to be a whimsical and artistic representation of a character. The character has a skull-like head with large, exaggerated features, including prominent eye sockets and a pronounced jaw. The skull is adorned with a large, black, spiral-like structure on top, resembling a seashell or a similar organic form. The character is holding a snake-like creature wrapped around its body, which has a greenish hue and scales. The sculpture is detailed and has a playful, yet somewhat eerie aesthetic.Born into the greyness of England at the end of the Seventies, by the age of four Jon-Paul Kaiser knew that what he wanted to do in life was a draw. From that point he rarely strayed from that path; scribbling and doodling his way through School, College and University. After working with Porlzilla, Jon-Paul decided to go it alone concentrating at first on the toy customization scene, building up a name and strong reputation for himself with his stark Black & White custom style, influenced by comic book art, film noir & Ukiyo-e prints. This lead to him being approached by established toy producers for designs for their platform toys. Principally amongst these are Toy2R who have released numerous JPK Platforms. Self-produced art toys are designer collectibles created and manufactured independently by the artist or small teams without the backing of a large toy company or mass-market brand. These toys are often highly personal, artistic expressions and are usually made in limited runs. Key Characteristics include independent creation where the artist is in control of the entire process from concept, sculpting, and painting to production and packaging. These are usually made in small batches, often 10–100 pieces, which adds to their rarity, made using materials like resin, sofubi (Japanese soft vinyl), or 3D-printed components.
