About this Artist

The old saying goes "If you put a hundred monkeys in a room with a hundred type writers for a hundred years, eventually they'll come up with the works of Shakespeare". Likewise if you put a hundred monkeys in a room with a hundred crayons, then take those monkeys, tie them in a sack, throw them on the highway and back over them a couple of times, you'll have the works of James Silvani. James is a Maui-based comic book artist and commercial illustrator. He grew up in the artist's colony of Laguna Beach and received an art degree from San Francisco State University. He has been working as a freelance artist since 1994 and is currently providing art for monthly comics titles such as Disney/Kaboom's Darkwing Duck and Ape Entertainment's Richie Rich. And despite what you read in the first papragraph, James is an animal lover. At the left he is seen with his pets "Boingo", "Huli" and "Whaley".Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, seriography, and serigraph.
