About this Artist
Scott Wilkowski is a Milwaukee-based artist renowned for his innovative contributions to the designer toy scene. With over two decades of experience as a commercial sculptor, Wilkowski has gained recognition for his unique approach to customizing and creating art toys. Wilkowski is best known for his “Infected” series, where he meticulously embeds detailed skeletal structures within popular designer toys, offering a captivating glimpse beneath the surface. This process involves creating translucent resin casts that reveal intricate internal designs, blending elements of anatomy with pop culture Self-produced art toys are designer collectibles created and manufactured independently by the artist or small teams without the backing of a large toy company or mass-market brand. These toys are often highly personal, artistic expressions and are usually made in limited runs. Key Characteristics include independent creation where the artist is in control of the entire process from concept, sculpting, and painting to production and packaging. These are usually made in small batches, often 10–100 pieces, which adds to their rarity, made using materials like resin, sofubi (Japanese soft vinyl), or 3D-printed components. Woot Bear is a distinctive collectible designer toy store and art gallery located in San Francisco, California. Situated at 1512 Haight Street, it serves as both a retail space and a platform for artists to showcase their work. Woot Bear curates monthly art exhibitions, providing a venue for artists from around the world to present their creations. These exhibitions often feature original pieces alongside collectible figurines and products from various renowned brands. Junko Mizuno is a self-taught artist who is recognized for her unique style of powerful and erotic female imagery. Growing up in Tokyo, Junko's work is based on '70s Japanese cute culture. Her art refuses to be categorized as she can get inspired by anything around her. Her sources of inspiration include fetish art, folk art, religious art, pin-up art, advertising art, vintage toys, greeting cards, comics, food, movies etc. In 1996, she self-produced a photocopy booklet called "MINA animal DX" which brought her to the attention of the publishing industry in Japan. Soon after, she debuted as a professional comic artist and illustrator. Currently residing in San Francisco, she is constantly working on new comics, paintings, illustrations and designs for products ranging from toys to clothing.
