About this Medium
Graphite is a versatile and widely used medium in art, primarily known for its soft, smooth texture and the ability to create fine details, shading, and gradients. It comes in the form of pencils or sticks, with varying degrees of hardness, ranging from very soft (6B, 8B) to very hard (H, 2H). The softness or hardness of the graphite determines the darkness or lightness of the marks it produces. When used in drawing, graphite allows artists to achieve a range of effects, from precise, sharp lines to soft, velvety shading. It is often favored for its ability to create tonal depth and realistic textures, making it a popular choice for portraiture, still life, and landscape drawing. Its subtlety and versatility also make it ideal for sketching and underpainting for larger works. Camilla d’Errico and Japanese artist Hikari Shimoda join forces for a dynamic 2-person show at Tara McPherson’s Cotton Candy Machine Gallery, opening October 10th. “Niji Bambini”, meaning Rainbow Children in the artists native languages, is a collection of new original artworks exuding colourful themes and striking imagery. Camilla d’Errico is an Italo-Canadian artist who has been making waves in the fine art and comic industries with her manga-influenced style. Despite having amassed a wide artistic background in animation, fine arts, illustration and graphic design her passion has always been in comics, notably manga. Camilla resides in Vancouver, BC, where she continues her work in comics, creating her acclaimed original series – Tanpopo – based on literature. Ever the prolific artist, Camilla lives the double life of comic artist/creator and Pop Surrealist painter. Her ability to seamlessly weave comic art and manga with surrealist elements has allowed her to attain great renown in her main fields, while expanding her horizons to include fashion, merchandise and collectible designer art toys. Cotton Candy Machine is the new art boutique created by Tara McPherson and Sean Leonard located in Brooklyn, NYC. Specializing in art prints, posters, shirts, books, toys, and more by a variety of artists.
