About this Artist
Born in Santa Monica and raised in Tokyo, Tohru Patrick moved back to California in 2001 and has worked as a character/concept designer for animated movies such as "9" (Focus Features), "Legend of the Guardians" (Warner Bros) as well as "TRON: Uprising" (Disney Television) and many other film development projects. Although he swings digital pens hell out at work, Tohru Patrick also has attached a great deal of traditional watercolor painting of his own in the last several years. Recent group exhibitions include "Totoro Forest Exhibit" at Cartoon Art Museum, "Breath of Embers", "Hollow Thoughts" and "All Together Now" at Gallery Nucleus in CA, "Crazy 4 Cult" at Gallery 1988 in CA and NY, a duo show "風炎/FOHEN" at haleARTS SPACE in CA.Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. We work with artists studios and game companies to design custom posters and collectibles for collectors and partners
