About this Event
Toy Art Gallery is proud to present “ARThropod Brain” by Tokyoplastic and Emilio Garcia, new work inspired by electron microscope images, macro photography and the often mind boggling weirdness of the insect world. ARThropod Brain is a synthesis between the design of Tokyoplastic and the central motif of Emilio Garcia’s work; the brain. The future and past collide with multicolored brain bugs in candy flip paint that hark back to the early days of collection and categorization of weird and wonderful bugs, brains and strange critters. The ARThropod Brain show features specially-made 3D-printed framed and mounted “Arthropod Brain Bugs” in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, as well as an assortment of 2D work. In addition, Emilio will be debuting his porcelain Skull Brain, produced by K.Olin Tribu, which will be offered for sale for the first time at the show. Tokyoplastic Tokyoplastic have been at the forefront of commercial animation since they released the website of the same name in 2004. They produce vinyl collectibles and make strange on-line experiences. http://www.tokyoplastic.com/ Emilio Garcia Emilio Garcia is an internationally renowned artist and designer and the father of the Jumping Brain. http://www.emiliogarcia.org Please join us for the exhibit opening on Saturday, March 23rd from 7-10pm at Toy Art Gallery’sMixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. When creating a painted or photographed work using mixed media it is important to choose the layers carefully and allow enough drying time between the layers to ensure the final work will have integrity. If many different media are used it is equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. Many interesting effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Often, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist media, such as paints and graphite, to express a meaning in the everyday life. In this manner, many different elements of art become more flexible than with traditional artist media. The Toy Art Gallery is the first gallery of its kind to showcase and consult on high-end art toys and sculptures. Our goal is to showcase exciting, original, and new artists who use figurative sculpture as their primary medium of expression. We also focus on showing, collecting, and producing high end, limited edition, custom, and life-size toy sculptures. Our showroom and gallery is located in Hollywood, California. One of our specialties is to provide availability on rare and desirable toys, life-size figures, bronze sculptures, and one-of-a-kind custom figures created by some of the leading artists/toy designers from around the world. We also have an incredible selection of aftermarket fine art originals and prints created by the leading pop surrealist and low brow artists working today. Our aim is to provide the best works from these artists at a fair market value and priced to fit a variety of budgets.Emilio Garcia was born in Tarragona in 1981, where he studied at the School of Art and Design EADT. While pursuing his studies, he worked in various traditional animation studios in Barcelona as a layout artist and illustrator. Since 1999, he has worked as a freelance art director for international companies such as Berlitz Corporation, Hitachi, Diesel, Inditex, Metro, Vans, and The North Face, specializing in user interface design and interactive content. His work has been published in several editions of Web Design Index by Pepin Press & Agile Rabbit (2002–08) and Taschen's 1000 Favorite Websites (2003), among others. During this time, he developed a deep interest in visual culture and its intersection with technology. In 2008, inspired by the brain's remarkable capacity to adapt and reorganize itself, he transitioned to sculpture, with neuroplasticity becoming a central theme in his work.
