About this Venue
OhNo!Doom is a Chicago artist collective made up of designers, illustrators and plush artists (who all work creative jobs during the week). The group operates an art gallery-shop in Bucktown, that showcases it’s members work as well as other artists from around the world and is home to ON!D's designer toy and clothing line. This space also does triple duty as the collective’s design studio headquarters. The OhNo!Doom Collective is: Oscar Alatorre, Max Bare, Joseph Call, Lana Crooks, Jordan Owen and Andrew Thompson. Shawnimals and Squibbles Ink have teamed up with OhNo!Doom in Chicago on this custom toy show with Plushform. Plushform is an, open-ended blank plush platform toy (think Kidrobot’s Munny, but softer...). Artists from around the world were invited to participate, each with a unique style that will not only show off the amazing talents of each artist, but also the versatility of the Plushform as a blank toy medium. Ken Keirns is a Northern California artist who grew up in Flint, Michigan. After spending nearly a decade in Chicago, Ken moved out West in late 2007 to paint full-time and complain about the lack of snow. While his primary focus has been working with oil paint, he has been known to deliver the odd sculpture, toy prototype or mixed media piece. His recurrent subject matter revolves around cranially endowed women and monkeys interlaced with personal experiences, dreams, and the occasional bad pun. Ken's education was in graphic design. He only took a few formal painting classes -- he is mostly self-taught through research and trial & error.
