About this Platform
Marshall burst onto the scene in January 2008 when a relatively unknown design team from a small town in Michigan released a letter-pressed print of their new character, an infectiously happy little marshmallow boy who just happened to enjoy roasting marshmallows himself. The Marshall shown on the print was equal parts cute and sadistic, one of our favorite combinations. From the first time we saw Marshall we knew that 64 Colors’ partners, Laura and Eric, had hit on something fantastic. Luckily for us it turns out that Laura and Eric were not only great designers, but also fans of designer toys…and as it turns out, fans of Rotofugi. So when they approached us about the idea of making Marshall toys, we jumped at the opportunity and suggested a blind box series. After moving to NYC in September of 1994, my professional career took a giant leap forward when I had a chance of a lifetime opportunity to join the then burgeoning Blue Sky Studios. Over the next 7 years I honed my skills as a character animator working on spots for Target, Pepsi, M&M’s, Mott’s, and Braun, as well as the feature films Joe’s Apartment, Alien Resurrection, and Ice Age. One of the true highlights during my tenure was animating on the 1998 Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Short Film, Bunny. In 2002, I was asked to join Hornet Inc. as their Animation Director. For the next 2 years, the launch of my role as director found me working on ground-breaking character spots for BMW (“Angels” Ad Critic’s ‘Spot of the Day’ November 2003), Quaker Oats ("The Three Bears", 2004 Annie Award Nominee for Best Animated Commercial and "Red Riding Hood") and Reese’s. Following a short stint at freelancing during the beginning of 2005 at local shops which included Charlex, Psyop, Framestore NY and Nickelodeon, I was then approached to head up the newly formed 3d department at Guava, where I served as their Director of Animation for three years.
