About this Event
Nucleus and Nickelodeon have partnered up to present a tribute to our absorbent, yellow and porous friend, SpongeBob. The collection will feature work from a wide spectrum of artists, including a few of the show's very own. Neptune himself would be excited to see this! Stay tuned for more details about opening night festivities, special releases, plus a very rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at the art technique and style of the series. Resin casting is a method of plastic casting where a mold is filled with a liquid synthetic resin, which then hardens. It is primarily used for small-scale production like industrial prototypes and dentistry. It can be done by amateur hobbyists with little initial investment, and has been appropriated for the production of collectible toys, models and figures, as well as small-scale jewelry production. The synthetic resin for such processes is a monomer for making a plastic thermosetting polymer. During the setting process, the liquid monomer polymerizes into the polymer, thereby hardening into a solid. TADO introduces "Sponge Bob Mutant Pants!" Made for an upcoming official Sponge Bob tribute show at Gallery Nucleus named 'Nautical Nonsense', a total of 14 resin figures were hand-made and tagged (7 Patricks + 7 Bob) and ready for you to bring home! Tado is Mike and Katie, two very hard working people who do graphic design, illustration, animation, toy design, and a bit of everything in between. Tado are based in Sheffield UK, enjoy eating ice cream, and playing with their dogs. The pair work across a huge range of projects, from logos, animation and web design through to customised cars, designer toys and home-ware! Over the past 7 years Tado have worked like demons to continually produce all kinds of projects – it is the diversity of their work that they love. Tado enjoy all aspects of what they do and try their best to spread love and happiness to the unsuspecting world. As well as their commercial design and illustration projects Tado also have a lot of other projects such as exhibitions and toy and merchandise production. Their first solo exhibition was held in 2006 in LA and was a collaboration with designer retail outlet Kidrobot. Since then recent exhibitions include "MTV Toy" at ‘Design Week’ in Milan (MTV Italia), window dressings for the prestigious Le Bon Marche department store in Paris, and a collaborative show with Jon Burgerman, also in Paris. Tado work closely with several companies on various toy, artifact Since October of 2004, Nucleus has strived to be a welcoming gathering place for the art loving community by offering quality art, art-related goods, and rarities. Focusing primarily on gallery exhibits, we have also had benefit auctions, product signings, music events, and artist lectures. After three and a half years, we moved one block east to a much larger and more dynamic space. Still in the heart of quaint downtown Alhambra, we re-opened in March of 2008 with over 2000 square feet of open gallery space, 1000 square feet of shop/boutique, and over 3000 square feet of studio/production space. Having exhibited both local artists and artists from abroad, and catering to an international customer base, we offer an extensive collection of original contemporary, illustrated, graphic, commercial, and narrative art - all of which are carefully catalogued on our website.
