Peter Kelk was born in New Zealand; he studied graphic design at the Wanganui School of Design specialising in print and illustration, and after graduating in 2002 spent time working throughout Europe as a freelancer and technical director of an international lowbrow gallery. Currently he is residing and working as an artist from his studio in Melbourne, under the pseudonym ‘Seymour’ and stocks and exhibits his work in galleries worldwide. He uses a diverse range of mediums including sculpture and print to create his stylistically recognisable pieces that range from limited edition art toys to giclee prints to intricately detailed one off sculpted pieces. In the past few years he has undertaken a wide range of projects including various solo and group shows, as well as commission projects for bands, theatre productions, and magazines. Self-produced art toys are designer collectibles created and manufactured independently by the artist or small teams without the backing of a large toy company or mass-market brand. These toys are often highly personal, artistic expressions and are usually made in limited runs. Key Characteristics include independent creation where the artist is in control of the entire process from concept, sculpting, and painting to production and packaging. These are usually made in small batches, often 10–100 pieces, which adds to their rarity, made using materials like resin, sofubi (Japanese soft vinyl), or 3D-printed components. The Toy Art Gallery is the first gallery of its kind to showcase and consult on high-end art toys and sculptures. Our goal is to showcase exciting, original, and new artists who use figurative sculpture as their primary medium of expression. We also focus on showing, collecting, and producing high end, limited edition, custom, and life-size toy sculptures. Our showroom and gallery is located in Hollywood, California. One of our specialties is to provide availability on rare and desirable toys, life-size figures, bronze sculptures, and one-of-a-kind custom figures created by some of the leading artists/toy designers from around the world. We also have an incredible selection of aftermarket fine art originals and prints created by the leading pop surrealist and low brow artists working today. Our aim is to provide the best works from these artists at a fair market value and priced to fit a variety of budgets.
