About this Artist
Salão Coboi is Apolinário Pereira, visual artist/sculptor, graduated from the University of Porto, Portugal. He is the co-founder of the collective that was born in 2009 two days after Michael Jackson’s death in the European Wild West (Portugal). Salão Coboi was co-founded with José Cardoso, illustrator/designer, as a mutant collective that works with various artists (woodwork sculpture, photography, cinema, music, fashion, etc.). Since November 2011, Salão Coboi is Apolinário’s solo project, based in Portugal and Switzerland. Salão Coboi means Cowboy Salon in Portuguese, Salon coming from the “Salon de Paris”, which was the greatest art event of the Western World in the 19th century. Resin casting is a method of plastic casting where a mold is filled with a liquid synthetic resin, which then hardens. It is primarily used for small-scale production like industrial prototypes and dentistry. It can be done by amateur hobbyists with little initial investment, and has been appropriated for the production of collectible toys, models and figures, as well as small-scale jewelry production. The synthetic resin for such processes is a monomer for making a plastic thermosetting polymer. During the setting process, the liquid monomer polymerizes into the polymer, thereby hardening into a solid. Jeremyville is an artist, product designer and author. He wrote the first book in the world on designer toys called 'Vinyl Will Kill', in 2003, and his 2nd book 'Jeremyville Sessions', (both published by IdN, distributed by Gingko). Jeremyville has been in group shows at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburg, Colette in Paris, the Madre Museum in Napoli, the 798 Arts District in Beijing, and Giant Robot in New York. Converse has released 2 Jeremyville Chuck Taylor high tops, and Kidrobot have released several of his designer toys. He also regularly speaks at creative conferences, having spoken at Pictoplasma in Berlin, and in Oslo, with upcoming conferences in Argentina, New York and Brazil. He now splits his time between his 2 studios in SoHo, New York City, and by the ocean at Bondi Beach in Sydney. He travels around the world often, and his studio is also wherever he opens up his sketchbook and starts drawing.
