About this Artist
Visual Technicians is the art of Jeff Boyes. 2019 marks the 16th Anniversary of Visual Technicians as an outlet for the creative endeavours of Jeff. He has strived to refine his style over these 16 years. As a student of lino-cut prints and screen printing, he has slowly developed an illustration style that shows those influences. His prints have a lot of similar line-work to lino-cut prints but with the bright bold colors of a screen print. In the past 10 years he has worked with Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles on a regular basis, as well as Spoke Art in San Francisco and Ayden Gallery in Vancouver. He has worked on projects for the T.V. shows Lost, Breaking Bad, and Modern Family. In 2013 he worked with Gallery 1988 and The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences on a "Lincoln" screen print for The Oscars. He has also worked with Sony on special edition Blu-Ray covers for Leon:The Professional, Drive, The Equalizer, and The Equalizer II. In 2015 he was involved in Star Wars: Force for Change, where he created a screen print for charity. In the graphic design world his clients and collaboratorsScreen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, seriography, and serigraph. It all started when a group of great friends developed a love for collecting movie print art. It’s natural for friends to adopt similar tastes and styles, so we did. For years we’ve been collecting print art and absolutely love it—seriously, you should see our walls. The problem is, when you start to become obsessed with something, your desires narrow. It’s like you’ve been fishing for tuna for years, but what you really want is to catch some great white sharks. Having said that, we grew tired of catching our tuna, so we decided to launch this vessel that stands before you—Skuzzles. With Skuzzles we are able to share the ideas we have with everyone else. We are able to collaborate with many different talented people to create epic limited edition cult decor. Our primary interests are creating opportunities for artists, developing truly unique products for collectors, and to promote and give back to an industry (film and cinema) that has moulded the imaginations of all of us. We are Canadian-based company located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and have partnered exclusively with the Mayfair Theatre. We formed in 2010 and if you’re reading this now, we’re still in business!
