About this Platform
http://sketchbot.blogspot.com/ After the huge success of the first Sketchbot Custom Show held this past March at My Plastic Heart NYC, Sketchbot creator Steve Talkowski decided to curate a highly anticipated 2nd show for the West coast designer toy aficionados. Opening Friday night, November 19th, at Munky King LA, the date also coincides with the drop of the Sketchbot DIY blanks, which will be available at the show. Pick up a one-of-a-kind custom from your favorite artist, then head home with a blank and create your very own unique Sketchbot! After moving to NYC in September of 1994, my professional career took a giant leap forward when I had a chance of a lifetime opportunity to join the then burgeoning Blue Sky Studios. Over the next 7 years I honed my skills as a character animator working on spots for Target, Pepsi, M&M’s, Mott’s, and Braun, as well as the feature films Joe’s Apartment, Alien Resurrection, and Ice Age. One of the true highlights during my tenure was animating on the 1998 Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Short Film, Bunny. In 2002, I was asked to join Hornet Inc. as their Animation Director. For the next 2 years, the launch of my role as director found me working on ground-breaking character spots for BMW (“Angels” Ad Critic’s ‘Spot of the Day’ November 2003), Quaker Oats ("The Three Bears", 2004 Annie Award Nominee for Best Animated Commercial and "Red Riding Hood") and Reese’s. Following a short stint at freelancing during the beginning of 2005 at local shops which included Charlex, Psyop, Framestore NY and Nickelodeon, I was then approached to head up the newly formed 3d department at Guava, where I served as their Director of Animation for three years. My most recent THE LEGEND Trickster...Warrior...Revolutionary. Sick of living under the yoke of the Jade Emperor, The Monkey King staged a coup against the Kingdom of Heaven using his wits, his cunning and a very big stick. Individuality in the face of conformity is his legacy. THE TOYS In his honor we built this temple, filling it with toys that embody his rebellious and creative spirit. Cast from the hearts and minds of independent artists from around the world, these "Designer Toys" or "Art Toys" are part of an ever-growing international phenomenon. In an age where mega-conglomerates churn out mass-produced hunks of cheap plastic, these limited production-run collectibles are revolutionizing the way people think about art and toys.
