About this Platform

http://sketchbot.blogspot.com/ After the huge success of the first Sketchbot Custom Show held this past March at My Plastic Heart NYC, Sketchbot creator Steve Talkowski decided to curate a highly anticipated 2nd show for the West coast designer toy aficionados. Opening Friday night, November 19th, at Munky King LA, the date also coincides with the drop of the Sketchbot DIY blanks, which will be available at the show. Pick up a one-of-a-kind custom from your favorite artist, then head home with a blank and create your very own unique Sketchbot! Paul Shih is an artist / designer in New Zealand, originally from Taiwan, where culture is a heady mix of diverse influences. Paul was educated in New Zealand, he graduated from AUT (Art and Design) in 2004. His work is about events, characters, and is inspired by his surroundings to create a visual world that tells the story. Throughout the time, Paul has developed a unique style called 「Paper Diorama」, which combined illustration and photography techniques. 「Hollow Threat」 is the most recent project from Paul, the project takes him back to the root of drawing and doodling. A re-discovery of his love for art, toy & music can be found in the world of Hollow Threat, where monsters, mysterious creatures and imperfect people are! THE LEGEND Trickster...Warrior...Revolutionary. Sick of living under the yoke of the Jade Emperor, The Monkey King staged a coup against the Kingdom of Heaven using his wits, his cunning and a very big stick. Individuality in the face of conformity is his legacy. THE TOYS In his honor we built this temple, filling it with toys that embody his rebellious and creative spirit. Cast from the hearts and minds of independent artists from around the world, these "Designer Toys" or "Art Toys" are part of an ever-growing international phenomenon. In an age where mega-conglomerates churn out mass-produced hunks of cheap plastic, these limited production-run collectibles are revolutionizing the way people think about art and toys.
