About this Medium

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. My name is Mick Minogue and I am a freelance Arts & Craftser working as creative director and graphic artist from the office in my head. After ruining well over 300 school books with my excessive doodling throughout my adolescent years I eventually graduated from the National College of Art & Design NCAD In 2007 with a first prize degree In Art & Design Education. After spending a few years back In school as an art teacher I decided to pursue my creative career as a artist as the doodling on school books thing had not yet subsided. I manage all my creative projects from my little studio base In Dublin, Ireland. A lot of my work Is inspired from the archives of my childhood, referencing popular culture from the 1980s and 90s. I try not lend myself to one artistic practice as I have the creative hyperactivity of an 80s kid watching the Ghostbusters whilst drinking fizzy pop. I feel Its my duty to make and do for its all I know apart from being able to make a mean sandwich. If something needs making be It artwork, film prop or an idea just drop me a line.
