About this Event

On Saturday, December 12th, Corey Helford Gallery presents “Between Worlds”, a new group exhibition curated by Caro that explores the fantasy of planets and lands yet to be explored. The exhibition is a follow up to “Dreamlands”, where artists pushed the boundaries of the limitless landscape of our imaginations. When NASA retrieved photos from our solar system’s least understood planet, Pluto, earlier this year, a dreamland became reality. What those images lacked in finer details made up for in splendor, presenting a terrific look at the lonely planet of enormous mountains, deep valleys and a crystal blue sky. It was completely alien and strikingly familiar at the same time- not something you would have expected from the distant planet. “Between Worlds”, inspired by the spirit of NASA’s photographs, features 30 international contemporary artists who share an otherworldly quality in their art. In a variety of media and styles, their works romanticize both their hope and despair for the future, and express a deep desire to reconnect with our home planet, which is threatened by pollution. Yumiko Kayukawa grew up in the small town of Naie in Hokkaido, Japan. In this pristine, natural surroundings, she found her love of animals and nature which later became an important theme of her work. As she grew up, Yumiko drew inspirations from American pop culture such as Rock & Roll, film and fashion. These influences are fused with modern and traditional Japanese motifs to create her unique style. Yumiko’s debut as an artist was with a Manga feature when she was just 16. She later attended and graduated from Bisen Art School in Sapporo, Japan. She lives in Seattle, Washington since 2005. Tue - Sat, 12 - 6pm Acrylic paint is fast drying paint containing pigment suspension in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints can be diluted with water, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted (with water) or modified with acrylic gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media.
