About this Event
The theme of the show is meant to draw awareness to bullying and cyberbullying. Cooper has confirmed over 70 artists from around the world to participate in the show. Paintings, drawings, custom toys, and prints expressing the artists' view of bullying will be on display. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to GLIDE (Gays and Lesbians Initiating a Dialog for Equality) and CHIME Institute (an organization dedicated to inclusive education where kids of all abilities learn together). In 2003 Sket One started designing toys for such heavyweight toymakers including Kidrobot, Solid Industries, MINDstyle, Wheaty Wheat, Red Magic, Circus Punks, and more. Always eager to explore additional outlets, Sket One has succeeded in exhibiting his custom work both nationally and internationally in various galleries and shows such as Night & Day (NYC), You Asked for It (London/Birmingham), and I Am 8-bit (LA), Kidrobot Dunny and Munny Shows (NYC), and Beyond the Cel (AZ). Sket One displays a passion for uniting distinct components of pop culture into pieces of art that are startlingly cohesive and original. Such innovation has led Sket One to such clients as Universal Music, EMI, DC Comics, Ford, Coca-Cola, Silent Skateboards, and Grind King Trucks. Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. THE LEGEND Trickster...Warrior...Revolutionary. Sick of living under the yoke of the Jade Emperor, The Monkey King staged a coup against the Kingdom of Heaven using his wits, his cunning and a very big stick. Individuality in the face of conformity is his legacy. THE TOYS In his honor we built this temple, filling it with toys that embody his rebellious and creative spirit. Cast from the hearts and minds of independent artists from around the world, these "Designer Toys" or "Art Toys" are part of an ever-growing international phenomenon. In an age where mega-conglomerates churn out mass-produced hunks of cheap plastic, these limited production-run collectibles are revolutionizing the way people think about art and toys.
