Contrary to a popular and cherished myth, artists are not ALWAYS the angst-ridden and morose ghosts of the garret that we imagine them to be. Quite a few, in fact, evince a delightful spirit of whimsy in their canvases from time to time. Case in point - Tara McPherson, who once again offers up a variation on familiar themes in a delightful piece called Bunny Girl. Known and justly praised for paintings that touch upon the paradoxical nature of female sensuality, she's now taking a brief holiday from all that. The nubile subject casts a knowing glance at the viewer with a charming smile, and her leporine accessories are (of course) symbolic of carnal enthusiasm - but the overall message here is one of facetious fecundity, not licentiousness. Seriously, one cannot help but smile back.
