If you happen to be in San Francisco this week, Spoke Art Gallery and Scott Scheidly is putting a summery twist on the Pop portrait. From the Spoke Art Website:
“The Pinks” explores the cultural and social implications of color and how the predefined notions that accompany these perceptions can alter one’s identity and subsequent world view. By incorporating either hyper-masculinized or historically infamous figures, Scheidly further drives the point home, making a mockery of his subjects though biting socio/sexual satire.
Which all sounds well and good, but frankly I'm just excited about more pink and purple clad villains! He started this series back in 2011 and this show is a continuation, with thirteen new acrylic paintings. Spoke art will hold an opening reception on Thursday August 1st, 6-10pm. For more info and to RSVP visit the facebook even page. The show will up up until August 24th.
