Background:
Lyla Warren started her career in animation interning at Curious Pictures in 1998. Having just left film school in North Carolina, she came to San Francisco to learn the animation trade. Since then she has spent over 15 years honing her skills at leading animation studios including (Colossal) pictures, Curious Pictures, Wild Brain, Mondo Media and Laika. She has also worked in the gaming field for innovative companies such as Popcap, LeapFrog and Zynga.
Always eager to combine her love of art and travel, Lyla has worked in both India and China. In India, she volunteered at a small Himalayan school, where she taught art to the students and helped teachers to create books for the students and administration. Lyla went to China twice as a overseas supervisor directing a Chinese studio in both games and cinematics. She’s always looking for any excuse to explore more of the planet.
These days she resides in the beautiful town of Portland. She is focused on creating fun, engaging sculptures and building her mighty (tiny) empire as an independent artist. When she’s not sculpting, she has time for her favorite activities: hanging with her man, Travis Kotzebue, going to the dog park with her pup, Titan and watching way too much sci fi. She also makes time for her second passion, studying gender, intersectional equality and working as an activist towards equality for all.
In her personal projects she hopes to create mind expanding, engaging art that’s beautiful and gets people thinking or feeling. She has lots of things in the works. Check out her blog to see some of her latest projects!
