On Saturday, January 10th, Flower Pepper Gallery is pleased to present 40 x 400, curated by Mark Todd. 40 x 400 is a collection of 8” x 10” works by a diverse roster of 40 acclaimed artists. Each piece will be priced at $400, giving new and seasoned collectors alike an opportunity to add highly desirable pieces from sought after artists such as Jim Houser and Shark Toof to their collection. From the elegantly executed yet grotesquely satirical oil paintings of today’s society by Sean Norvet to the quirky and incredibly cute cartoonish works of Amanda Visell, this show offers something for everyone. These pieces will go quickly, so arrive early! Pre sales are encouraged. The show’s curator, Mark Todd says of his inspiration behind 40 x 400, “There is something I find interesting about curating a gallery show with a set size restriction. This may sound anti-creative or stifling in some way but I see it as a way to mesh a group of artists together without favoring any one artist. By sharing the same amount of space to explore, the artists are given equal opportunity to have a conversation with the viewer. For this show, all of the pieces will be priced at $400 each and the 40 invited artists were asked to create a piece measuring 8" x 10" vertical. I intentionally chose this very unassuming standard size as a way to let the art just be.”

Flower Pepper Gallery - 3rd Anniversary Show
This December we will celebrate our 3rd Year Anniversary with a special exhibition featuring works of art by some of gallery's most promising local and international artists. Throughout these 3 years, we have hosted 28 exhibitions and 7 events at our gallery location in Pasadena. We would like to thank all the artists, collectors and friends for contributing to the success of our first 3 years! We look forward to many, many more! Each participating artist has been carefully hand selected and asked to create artwork specifically for this exhibition. Whether it’s the immaculately rendered and delightfully whimsical work of note illustrator C.F. Payne, or the incredibly executed and slightly ironic oil paintings of artist Chelsea Gustaffson, each piece in this exhibition is sure to delight. Artist Chelsea Gustaffson says of her piece for the show, “My piece focuses on the beauty of a single waratah flower. It’s head and collar of leaves are almost dragon like, rising proud and powerful. The Latin word, effloresco (to bloom, to flourish), is juxtaposed with a contemporary acronym (FTW - for the win) intended to provide a bit of a tongue in cheek reminder that yes, it is important to aspire to be our best and it is equally important to keep a sense of humor and not take Oneself too seriously.”

The Vader Project
The Vader Project is a reimagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet curated by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys (dketoys.com). Kelemer and Marks gathered close to 100 of the hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists, and designers to participate. For this unique project each artist was given a 1:1 scale authentic prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet used in the STAR WARS™ films. The helmets served as a blank canvas for each artist to paint, design, mash up, and customize.
