Brand/manufacturer loyalty?

As I'm adding up my collection, I can't help but notice that a lot of my stuff is either from Kidrobot or MINDstyle, with very little else from other manufacturers. Without realizing it, it seems that I've developed some brand loyalty! Anybody else have the same thing going on (either intentionally or not)?

I definitely don't have loyalty to a manufacturer or even a platform. There are lots of people out there they just collect Dunnys, Be@rbricks, or Qees, but I think I just look at a particular piece. If I like it I get it ... also I generally only get one colorways of each item. I don't understand collecting multiple colorways of the exact same figure. :)

crazylikeafox11 m Ditto. I only have multiple colorways of one figure. I don't have the space (or funds) to collect every color of every toy. about 12 years ago

I just started collecting, but I find it's not so much that I have brand loyalty as the artist that I like have brand loyalty.

As for colorways, they remind me of the variant cover phenomenon in comics. They're just trying to get a few more bucks from you without having to create something new. That being said, I love GID and will probably get both GID and another colorway when available. However, Kozik just released the Gipper Bust with the Gold, Copper, Silver, Pink (Clutter Magazine exclusive), and Red (Rotofugi Exclusive). I was happy purchasing the red one. Done. Then a Black version came out at Kidrobot and I was like I'm going to get that. However, the one I bought hadn't sold out so I felt I had awhile. Unfortunately the black version sold out before I bought it. Sorry, one tangent later the point: Colorways can be interesting and I won't write it off as a possibility. Besides you can always set them up in seperate rooms.

keegan a I always wish that artists/manufacturers would just say 'here are all the colors we'll be releasing of this piece over the next year' then I can try and grab the one that really appeals to me. Versus buying one, then realizing a month later I actually like a different colorway better. I think that frustrates a lot of the collectors/fans. about 12 years ago

Easily_Amused Amen! But, then their sales figures would probably go down. Theoretically as an artist I would mock up all the colors I'm considering and release them in abtaches so that their is one good one and a couple okay ones first (give it a month or two), Then I would release a two better ones (give it a month or two), and finally release the one I consider the best. That way I might score 3 or 4 sales to the same person. about 12 years ago

Easily_Amused But, as a collector I deffinitely prefer your idea. (sorry about the double comment. Not enough space in the first one). about 12 years ago

keegan a I think short-term that's a 'good' sales technique. Long-term though it's honestly put me off buying until I see a variety of colorways and then I grab the one I want, even if that means turning to eBay or boards. :) about 12 years ago

Easily_Amused So far Red Gipper, OMFG (and OMFG GID because I did the kick starter), 10" Gas Mask Murphys, and the two 3A piece I have are the only ones I've gotten with release. Missing the black gipper definitely has me thinking like you. :) about 12 years ago

As I am not particularly informed about all the stuff that was going wrong over the years I have no problem admitting that I am a pretty big Kidrobot fan.

Not in terms of their choices of toys they release (i really couldn't care less for all the southpark, simpsons, futurama stuff) or artists they work with but I like the quality and continuity of their marketing: The facebook profiles for every shop, the Popup stores, Kronikle, the quality of their merchandise (t-shirts, caps etc.)

By now I have visited every single one of the 6 Kidrobot stores there are and I liked every one of them.

Besides that I like Toy2r mostly because of their releases for David Horvath and Jon-Paul Kaiser
