Ebay and Combating Flippers!!!

Surfing ebay and looking at the gear they offeer you inevitably come across someone selling something you can still pick up in the store for retail at at least twice the price. I just recently saw this with the American Depress piece by Ron English (though when I looked again today I couldn't find it again.), and it got me thinking. I never sold anything on e-bay, but I have seen ads by them saying it costs nothing to post an item for sale. So, what if we as a community member see something like this happening and put in a post for the same thing at an outrageous price and provide in the description how to buy it at a retail store for regular price while asking that no one actual bid on this auction? I don't know too much about ebays rules, so if someone knows something that would stop this from happening tell me in a response. So please, share your thoughts...

Also, wouldn't this be a great Guerilla Marketing campaign for stores that have exclusive colorways to get attention?

Well if it's not listed it's either, 1. Because someone actually bought it, or 2. Because the auction time ran down before anyone bought it and the seller never relisted it. :) Also look at how many eBay deals the seller has completed and the rating. If the seller has 3000 sales and a 99.8% rating, then its most likely someone who sells at these inflated prices for a living taking chances and actually getting buyers. :)

Easily_Amused LOL! They suck. But, what do you think of the idea of spoofing them on ebay to give directions to where to actually buy? almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Go for it, but chances are someone will report it and it will get taken down :) Just don't do it using your own account. You wouldn't want to get some black marks against it..... almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Hmmm... Why would they take it down if reported? almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Well unless you are selling a product, I can't see why eBay would let you leave a sale on that only gives directions on where to buy items at retail price. Some buyers can't buy from Kidrobot such as myself as they don't ship here, so they prey on buyers who want the item but can't get it through the usual retailers. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Didn't think of people who live in countries that can't get direct shipment. But, I meant actually posting the item with a stupid price you would be willing to sell at that no one in their right mind would buy it though. While offering directions to a better deal in the description. It kind of spoofs the flipper. Just make sure you say you will firmly sale at that price. almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m That's just my point. It's eBay. When someone goes ape and puts something up for a stupidly high price, you will always gets hits for item selling at a reasonable price. Unless it's a stupidly low run amount like 1 or 5, a lot more will find their way to eBay at lower prices. I've seen 3A toys sell for $6000 on eBay. Never think no one in their right mind will not pay the stupid prices :) almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused $6000?LOL! I'd become a flipper if I could sale a $70-350 toy for $6k! That's a better return than any other commodity on the market. almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Here's a current sale. This ones a buy now, but i've watched two ThreeA auctions reach over $5000 on bids where more than 30 bids were exchanged. http://goo.gl/Kq39G . Some people have that amount of cash lying around for plastic :) almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m I see some chop is selling his MADL Mini Resin Red on eBay. Says it doesn't fit into his collection. Flipper. He also says he just wants what he paid for it, but he puts it on a bid with a reserve. If he wanted $50 why not put it up as buy now at $50. You got to mission to get one of these they go so quick, so when you do that, you know what you are buying. http://alturl.com/7wcan almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused That sucks... I've seen people sell off their collections to get money for a new baby, ect. and they start the bid at $0. So, I can't see why this guy wouldn't do the same or just do the buy now like you mentioned. Or at least word it better, "I would like to get back at least the $50 I paid for it." Then set a reserve to get you there and only there. After $50 no reserve. But still flipping sucks, almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m His reserve is $50 which it's on already after 1 bid, but this is red which just shipped, so he's clearly received it and put it straight on sale to make what he can over and above the $50. He knows it will fetch at least $100 as the last two reached $130 almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Are you goinng to bid on it? almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Why would I? I already have one on the way :) almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Nice! I was thinking you were price shopping it because you needed one. almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Nah. Hard to price shop an item limited to 20 that was just released unless it's being flipped in which case I won't pay those prices. Ironically I got my Red Resin because someone was caught trying to flip one before it was shipped ;) almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused LOL! You were telling me about that! How many of the GID were released? almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m It's only 20 for each release. I missed the drop as I was visiting my Dad in hospital at the time it dropped. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused I hope he is doing better! Are you trying to collect all the colorways? What attracts you to the platform? almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused @HoodedGrub Are you after the 10" DIY GID MADL? $49.99 plus shipping. Is this the same one you missed? I can give you the info for it if you drop me your email. almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m No dude. The 3" MADl Mini Resin Green GID. Limited to 20. If I missed the surprise drop, I won't get one without paying more than I'm willing to pay. It was $50 on drop and the others that have found their way onto EvilBay have fetched $132, $130 and $155. almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m Here's the MADStore page with all the surprise drop Resins -> http://www.madtoystore.com/ almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Okay, I was updating some items I track online and came across the 10" mentioned above, and was going to pass on the stores info to you, but didn't want to do it publicly in case it was the rare one you need. If I come across the mini one I will let you know. By the way the store does international shipping that I saw it at and didn't have anything against SA. almost 12 years ago

Easily_Amused Nice! They have the American Depress by Ron English available there now too. After seeing it hang on my wall in person, It's even more awesome than the pics. almost 12 years ago

There's plenty of places that ship internationaly people are always going to filp products. There's even a kozik print on german e-bay at 115 euro when it could bought and shipped for not much less and it comes out tomorrow. I don't really get why someone would do that at all or really for so little profit.

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused Who knows? I looked at your collection, I like it. It seems you are almost exclusive to Kozik... I collect Kozik too, really love his work. I'm curious as to why your almost exclusive to him? Also, why none of his Ultraviolence pieces? almost 12 years ago

Titusza1-trampt-859f

Titusza1 I started my collection back before Kozik created Ultraviolence. But some things got in the way of me adding to my collection. Now I'm making up for it getting around to collecting what thing I can that I've always wanted. almost 12 years ago

Titusza1-trampt-859f

Titusza1 Though being in Germany makes it difficult and more expensive to collect the rare large works. I'm a San Fran kid at heart I loved the shows their and the work out of the area. I do like other artist but there's so much in Koziks work that just brings me back to those days on Height and Asbury. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused You should check out Soap Plant then (http://soapplant.com/koziktoys.aspx)! Really great service, awesome exclusive Kozik pieces, and they ship internationally. I ordered from them and all my stuff is really awesome. If you wanted a Ludwig Van Bust, they are the only place I know of still selling them (and at issue price). The Gipper Bust GID is to die for. But, my yellow Mecha Banana just slays me. almost 12 years ago

Titusza1-trampt-859f

Titusza1 Thanks for the tip I've been looking around here and most of what I like I can find. At a slightly higher price. But I do order from the states often Shipping then coustoms adds up to quite a bit at times though. almost 12 years ago

Easily_Amused If you leave a list of what your looking for, I will keep qn eye out for you, almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m I'm from South Africa and I've found most sites ship anywhere these days, but US eBay sellers are often willing to ship USPS cheapest shipping which helps as it levels out the higher prices sometimes and draws less attention to customs. It's also cheaper for me to buy from the US as the Euro/Pound is a lot stronger against our currency vs the Dollar. almost 12 years ago

Easily_amused-trampt-2928f

Easily_Amused I hate buying from Europe because of how much more I have to pay in dollars... Even worse Canada and Australia are now about Par with the dollar! @HoodedGrub, if you don't shop from the Loonies or Ozzy's right now you should look into it... almost 12 years ago

Hoodedgrub-trampt-271f

HoodedGrub m I shop from all over. almost 12 years ago

I wonder how many buyers these days of the limited runs actually buy to collect. All I ever see is the limited editions for sale on eBay. There is only 20 MAD*L Resin Clears and already another one for sale -> Clear Resin MAD*L
